Our From All Walks of Life Fund grant program assists the most vulnerable people living with HIV disease in our community. The following are just a few examples of the types of support we provide.

Sam was a teenage immigrant who had left his home country in search of a better life. This young man suffered abuse and as a result of it, contracted HIV when he was 16. He left home to escape the abuse, and arrived in the US with nothing. Fortunately, Sam was able to secure an asylum hearing with a judge, however as a non-English speaker, he needed a translator for the hearing. A $250 grant from AIDS Fund paid for a translator, and the judge granted asylum just before his nineteenth birthday. This story is just one example of the many obstacles people can face in getting care for their HIV, but it also shows how life changing a small grant can be for someone in need.
Amy was living in her home for 12 years until experiences of domestic abuse compromised her sense of safety & security. The abuser removed all the locks on her house, in addition to stealing her food & medication. Amy’s health began declining from the amount of stress that resulted from enduring these conditions, leading her to suffer a heart attack. Amy found a new place to live and was accepted, but could not afford 1st month’s rent & security deposit to move in. With only $225 from the From All Walk of Life Fund, Amy got help with her move-in expenses & transformed her life from overwhelming chaos and anxiety to the safety and stability she so deserved.
Leon was living with HIV disease, on disability, and in subsidized housing. Leon’s daughter passed away in the summer and he was suddenly charged with supporting and caring for his two young grandchildren. Unfortunately, due to the additional expenses of caring for his grandchildren, he fell behind on his rent and received an eviction notice from his landlord. A $350 grant was enough to cover the back rent so that Leon and his grandchildren wouldn’t get evicted.
